EAHL - COMMON UNITS COURSE
This course covers the fundamental skills and knowledge required to handle Ozone Depleting Substances & Synthetic Greenhouse Gases used as extinguishing agents in fire protection systems.
The course includes the three (3) units of competency common to all Extinguishing Agent Handling Licence (EAHL) categories. Applicants need to complete this course and the respective EAHL Licence course to gain the units required to apply for an EAHL Licence.
Who’s it for?
This course is for anyone who works with fire protection equipment and suppression systems containing ozone depleting substances (ODS) or synthetic greenhouse gases (SGG), which require an Extinguishing Agent Handling Licence.
This includes technicians who test and maintain fire panels connected to certain gaseous fire suppression systems, as well as anyone who handles the warehousing or refilling of spare cylinders.
Experienced technicians can use the course to build upon existing skills and knowledge and validate competency.

COURSE INFORMATION
The course provides participants with the foundation skills and knowledge to work on fire protection equipment and suppression systems containing ozone depleting substances (ODS) or synthetic greenhouse gases (SGG).
The following areas are included:
- Maintaining workplace health and safety
- Working safely including identifying hazards and risks associated with manoeuvring and transporting gas cylinders.
- Understanding the effect of ozone depletion on global warming and the application of rules, regulations and licenses relevant to the fire protection industry
- Provides the foundation skills and knowledge required to work on fire protection equipment and suppression systems containing ozone depleting substances (ODS) or synthetic greenhouse gases (SGG).
- Completion of this course will satisfy the common units required to attain an EAHL Licence for classes 1-5.
- The course plays a pivotal role in building your skills and knowledge, providing the foundation to enable further training.
- The course is self-paced and typically takes 3 months to complete.
- Participants are required to complete the course within 6 months of enrolling
- The course is delivered using a blended model of learning which includes comprehensive online training, supported by workplace-based learning in the field.
- Participants are supported throughout the learning process by our industry experts.
The course covers the three (3) units of competency which are common to EAHL Licences 1 to 5. To fully meet the EAHL Licence requirements, you need to complete this course, plus one of the following courses:
- EAHL - Licence 1 Course
- EAHL - Licence 2 Course
- EAHL - Licence 3 Course
- EAHL - Licence 2 and 3 Course
- EAHL - Licence 4 Course
- EAHL - Licence 5 Course

This course can be completed at the same time as undertaking the course specific to the EAHL Licence(s) you require.
The units in this course can be used as credit towards completion of a Certificate II in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing.
- If you already have experience, participants can choose to undertake this course via a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway, to have their existing skills and knowledge recognised without having to undertake formal training.
- The RPL Pathway allows you to proceed directly to the assessment stage of the course. However, we support you with full access to all training material to allow you to top up or refresh your existing skills and knowledge prior to attempting the assessments.
- To be eligible for RPL, you should have a least 12 months fire industry experience
