EAHL - licence 2 and LICENCE 3 COURSE
The EAHL Licence course covers the skills and knowledge required to test, maintain, install and decommission fixed fire protection systems containing Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) & Synthetic Greenhouse Gases (SGG) covered by Extinguishing Agent Handling Licence (EAHL) Licence 2 and Licence 3.
The course includes six (6) units of competency. These units, in addition to the three (3) units contained in the EAHL – Common Units Course, are required to apply for an EAHL Licence 2 and an EAHL Licence 3.
Who’s it for?
The EAHL Licence course is for anyone who tests, maintains, installs and decommissions fixed gaseous fire extinguishing systems containing Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) or Synthetic Greenhouse Gases (SGG).
This includes:
- The installation and disconnection of:
- actuation devices (mechanisms) to and from container valves
- gaseous agent containers
- any interconnections to other gaseous system containers
- ancillary equipment connections to manifold and pipework
- The attachment and removal of transport equipment, such as valve outlet and actuator port caps, plugs and locking devices installed to prevent accidental discharge
- The commissioning of actuation control devices
- Testing actuation devices and release systems
- Disconnecting and reconnecting, actuation devices, interconnections to other gaseous systems containers, and ancillary equipment connections from containers to manifold and pipework
- Performing any tests and maintenance on any Fire Detection and Alarm System, including any remote operation panel and actuation and control system that interfaces with or forms part of a gaseous fire extinguishing system
- Performing any tests and maintenance on gaseous agent containers and ancillary equipment connections from containers to manifold and pipework
Experienced technicians can use the course to build upon existing skills and knowledge and validate competency.
Are there any special requirements needed to take this course?
- Participants must be employed in the fire industry or be capable of conducting routine service of specific fire protection equipment under supervision in the workplace.
- Participants require access to a personal computer or tablet and have basic computer skills to enable use of the on-line learning system.
COURSE INFORMATION
The course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to test, maintain, install and decommission fixed gaseous fire extinguishing systems containing ODS or SGG extinguishing agents.
The following areas are included:
- Understanding key Australian standards, regulations and codes related to routine servicing of fire protection systems and equipment
- Monthly routine service of fire detection and alarm systems including emergency warning systems
- Six-monthly routine service of fire detection and alarm systems interfaced with gaseous suppression systems
- Knowledge of fire detection and alarm system controls and components
- Monthly, six-monthly and yearly routine service of mechanical functions of gaseous fire suppression systems, excluding actions specific to electrical detection and control systems
- Read and interpret plans, drawings and specifications relevant to the installation of gaseous fire-suppression systems
- Read and interpret job specifications for installation of gaseous fire-suppression system
- Receive and install gaseous agent containers, manifold connections, actuators and activating mechanisms
- Decommission gaseous agent containers and actuators and prepare containers and components for transport
- Provides the skills and knowledge required to test, maintain, install and decommission fixed gaseous fire extinguishing systems containing ODS or SGG extinguishing agents.
- Completion of this course, plus the EAHL – Common Units course, will satisfy the application requirements to attain an EAHL Licence 2 and an EAHL Licence 3.
- The course is self-paced and typically takes 6 months to complete.
- Participants are required to complete the course within 8 months of enrolling
- The course is delivered using a blended model of learning which includes comprehensive online training, supported by workplace-based learning in the field.
- Participants are supported throughout the learning process by our industry experts.
The course includes six (6) units of competency. These units, in addition to the three (3) units contained in the EAHL – Common Units Course, are required to apply for an EAHL Licence 2 and an EAHL Licence 3.
Some of the units in this course are also included in other EAHL Licences. To avoid duplicating units, if you need multiple EAHL Licences, or licencing or accreditation for other fire industry job roles, please get in touch and we will develop a custom plan specific to your needs.

This course can be completed at the same time as undertaking the EAHL – Common Units Course or other EAHL Licence courses.
The units in this course can be used as credit towards completion of a Certificate II in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing or a Certificate III in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing
- If you already have experience, participants can choose to undertake this course via a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway, to have their existing skills and knowledge recognised without having to undertake formal training.
- The RPL Pathway allows you to proceed directly to the assessment stage of the course. However, we support you with full access to all training material to allow you to top up or refresh your existing skills and knowledge prior to attempting the assessments.
- To be eligible for RPL, you should have a least 12 months fire industry experience
