This course covers the units that are common to many Fire Safety Measures within the Fire Safety Assessment Class of FPA Australia’s Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme (FPAS). The course is delivered in the workplace with support from industry experts

Who’s it for?

This course is for fire safety assessors employed in the fire protection industry who need to apply or transition to qualified accreditation as prescribed in the Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme (FPAS) for Fire Safety Assessment work.

The course covers the four units of competency required for 29 of the 36 Fire Safety Measures and includes:

    • BSBOPS304 Deliver and Monitor Service to Customers
    • CPPFES2004 Identify types of installed fire safety equipment and systems
    • PUAFIR403 Assess Building Plans
    • PUAFIR507 Inspect Building Fire Safety Systems

When combined with other short courses relevant to each specific fire safety measure, participants will meet the FPAS application requirements for each specific measure.

The course is for individuals  who hold a Certificate II or higher qualification in engineering, construction, plumbing, electrical, fire safety or property services.

  • Participants must be employed in the fire industry and have the capacity to undertake fire safety assessment work.
  • Participants require access to a personal computer or tablet and have basic computer skills to enable use of the on-line learning system.

What does the course cover?

The course provides participants with the foundation skills and knowledge to perform fire safety assessment work in the fire protection industry and covers:

  • Assessing building plans, inspecting fire safety systems and equipment and determining level of performance
  • Understanding key Australian standards, regulations and codes related to fire safety assessment of fire protection systems and equipment
  • Providing effective customer service including the ability to communicate issues arising from the assessment of the performance of a range of fire protection systems and equipment

  • To apply for FSA accreditation for any of the 29 measures covered by this course, participants will also need to complete:
    • The specific short course/s covering each fire safety measure required; and
    • Hold a certificate II or higher qualification in engineering, construction, plumbing, electrical, fire safety or property services.

The Fire Protection Association of Australia (FPAA) set up the FPAS (Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme) for the benefit and sustainability of the industry. It is designed to ensure that all appropriately qualified practitioners have accreditation. It has gained recognition from State Governments such as NSW.
