Fundamental Servicing of
Fire Pumpsets
This course covers the fundamental skills and knowledge required to undertake routine servicing of fire pumpsets in accordance with AS1851-2012. It includes monthly and six-monthly servicing tasks.
WHo's it for?
This course is for routine service technicians employed in the fire protection industry looking to learn new skills, gain a promotion or enhance career opportunities.
Experienced technicians can use the course to build upon existing skills and knowledge and validate competency.
Are there any special requirements needed to take this course?
Participants must be employed in the fire industry and have either:
- A minimum of 12 months experience in the routine servicing of fire protection equipment or systems; or
- Have experience and skills in a plumbing or fire related job role; and
- The ability to conduct routine servicing of fire pumpsets under supervision at multiple sites is required.

The course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to undertake routine service activities on fire pumpsets and covers the following areas:
- Monthly routine service of fire pumpsets
- Six-monthly routine service of fire pumpsets
- Identification of defects and impediments that affect systems performance
- Documentation and reporting of results
- Basic principles of operation and purpose of pumpsets and their components
- Knowledge of hydraulics, water supply tanks, types of pumpsets and pumpset interfaces and controllers.

- Provides an understanding of the basic principles of fire pumpsets, giving participants the foundation knowledge and kills to perform routine service activities on fire pumpsets.
- The course plays a pivotal role in building your skills and knowledge, providing the foundation to enable further training
- The course is self-paced and typically take 3 months to complete.
- Participants are required to complete the course within 6 months of enrolling.
- The course is delivered using a blended model of learning which includes comprehensive online training, supported by workplace-based learning in the field.
- Participants are supported throughout the learning process by our industry experts.
The course, combined with the Fundamental Servicing of Fire Hydrant Systems course forms part of the requirements needed by FPAS Accredited Fire Safety Assessors for Fire Hydrant Systems (level 1).
Additionally, practitioners also need to complete:
- The FPAS Fire Safety Assessment Common Units Course, and
- Hold a Certificate ll or higher qualification in engineering, construction, plumbing, electrical, fire safety or property services.

- If you already have experience, participants can choose to undertake this course via a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway, to have their existing skills and knowledge recognised without having to undertake formal training.
- The RPL Pathway allows you to proceed directly to the assessment stage of the course. However, we support you with full access to all training material to allow you to top up or refresh you existing skills and knowledge prior to attempting the assessments.
- To be eligible for RPL, you must have a least 12 months experience servicing fire pumpsets
