This course covers the skills and knowledge required to undertake routine servicing and installation of fire extinguishers and blankets. It includes six-monthly and yearly servicing tasks.

Who’s it for?

  • This course is for routine service technicians commencing a career in the fire protection industry and for experienced technicians working in other parts of the industry, to develop additional skills and knowledge to conduct routine service of fire extinguishers and blankets.
  • Experienced technicians can use the course to top up and validate
    existing skills and knowledge.

Are there any special requirements needed to take this course?

  • Participants must be employed in the fire industry or be capable of  conducting routine service of specific fire protection equipment under  supervision in the workplace.
  • Participants require access to a personal computer or tablet and have basic  computer skills to enable use of the on-line learning system.

What does the course cover?

The course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to undertake routine service and installation activities on fire extinguishers and blankets and covers the following areas:

  • Six-monthly and yearly routine service of fire extinguishers and fire blankets in the field
  • Installation of fire extinguishers, fire blankets and appropriate signage and cabinets at customer premises in accordance with Australian Standards and building regulations
  • Determination of the correct type of extinguisher to meet fire hazards present in the area to be protected
  • Understanding of the installation requirements specified in building regulations and Australian Standards
  • Documentation and reporting of results
  • Working safely including identifying hazards and risks associated with testing.

How does the course link to Licensing or Accreditation requirements?
  • Completion of this course will assist participants meet the requirements of accreditation and licensing in the fire protection industry.
  • When combined with the Routine Service of Fire Hose Reels course, the FPAS Inspect and Test Common Units Course and unit CPPFES2005 Demonstrate First Attack Firefighting Equipment, practitioners will be eligible for qualified accreditation for FPAS Inspect and Test category 7 (Portable Fire Equipment and Fire Hose Reels – Complex)
