This course covers the skills and knowledge required to undertake routine servicing of pre-engineered fire suppression systems (non gaseous) in accordance with relevant Australian Standards and manufacturers specifications.

Who’s it for?

This course is for routine service technicians employed in the fire protection industry looking to learn new skills to gain a promotion and enhance career opportunities. Experienced technicians can use the course to top up and validate existing skills and knowledge.

Are there any special requirements needed to take this course?

  • Participants must be employed in the fire industry and have either:
    • a minimum of 12 months experience in the routine servicing of fire protection equipment or systems; or
    • have experience and skills in a mechanical or plumbing related job role.
  • The ability to conduct routine servicing of pre-engineered fire suppression systems (non gaseous) under supervision at multiple sites is required.
  • Participants require access to a personal computer or tablet and have basic computer skills to enable use of the on-line learning system.

What does the course cover?

The course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to undertake routine service activities on gaseous fire suppression systems and covers the following areas:

  • Routine service of pre-engineered, foam, wet chemical, powder or water mist systems installed to protect commercial cooking equipment, fixed plant or industrial vehicles
  • Knowledge of the types and operation of pre-engineered fire suppression systems (non gaseous)
  • Identification of defects and impediments that affect system performance
  • Documentation and reporting of results
  • Working safely including identifying hazards and risks associated with testing.
  • Application of manufacturer’s requirements and standards for routine service of proprietary systems to verify system performance
