Who’s it for?
- This course is for routine service technicians employed in the fire protection industry looking to learn new skills to gain a promotion and enhance career opportunities.
- Experienced technicians can use the course to top up and validate existing skills and knowledge.
Are there any special requirements needed to take this course?
- Participants must be employed in the fire industry and have either:
- a minimum of 6 months experience in the routine servicing of fire protection equipment or systems; or
- have experience and skills in a building, construction or fire related job role.
- The ability to conduct routine servicing of fire and smoke doors and passive fire and smoke containment products under supervision at multiple sites is required.
- Participants require access to a personal computer or tablet and have basic computer skills to enable use of the on-line learning system.

What does the course cover?
The course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to undertake routine service activities on single point exit and emergency lighting systems and covers the following areas:
- Six monthly and yearly servicing of single point exit and emergency lighting systems according to relevant Australian standards
- Replacement of components not restricted to licensed trades or occupations
- Basic knowledge of the operation of a range of exit and emergency lighting systems
- Basic knowledge of electrical current, components, batteries and the definition of extra low voltage
- Identification of defects and impediments that affect system performance
- Knowledge and skills to work safely around electrical equipment.
- Documentation and reporting of results

- When combined with the Routine Service of Fire Hose Reels course and the FPAS Inspect and Test Common Units Course, practitioners will be eligible for qualified accreditation for FPAS Inspect and Test category 7 (Portable Fire Equipment and Fire Hose Reels – Complex)
