This specialised course covers routine service of gaseous fire suppression systems whilst offering participants a qualification at Certificate III level. The course is delivered in the workplace with support from industry experts
Who’s it for?
This course is for experienced routine service technicians employed in the fire protection industry who require a Certificate III qualification.
Are there any special requirements needed to take this course?
- Participants must be employed in the fire industry and have either:
- a minimum of 12 months experience in the routine servicing of fire protection equipment or systems; or
- have experience and skills in a plumbing, electrical or fire related job role.
- The ability to conduct routine servicing of a range of complex gaseous fire suppression systems under supervision at multiple sites is required.
- Participants require access to a personal computer or tablet and have basic computer skills to enable use of the on-line learning system.
COURSE INFORMATION
The course provides participants with advanced skills and knowledge in the routine servicing of water-based fire suppression systems, including fire sprinkler systems and fire pumpsets. The following areas are included:
- Undertake monthly, six-monthly and yearly testing of fire sprinkler systems
- Undertake monthly and six-monthly servicing of fire pumpsets
- Undertake flow testing of fire sprinkler and fire hydrant systems
- Inspect and maintain portable foam-generating equipment
- Undertake routine service on control and indicating equipment
- Understanding key Australian standards, regulations and codes related to routine servicing of fire protection systems and equipment and environmental protection
- Maintaining workplace health and safety
- Ability to organise work schedules, complete tasks safely and efficiently and provide effective customer service
- Ability to discuss servicing needs with clients for a range of fire protection systems and equipment
The course is self-paced and typically takes 12-18 months to complete. Participants are required to complete the course within 24 months of enrolling.
- The course if delivered in the workplace via a distance-based delivery model and supported by an online learning sytem
- Participants are supported throughout the learning process by our industry experts
- This course will meet licensing and accreditation requirements that have a Certificate III in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing as one of the application requirements.
- In some states and territories, a licence or accreditation may be required to undertake fire protection work.

On completion of this course, participants may choose to enrol in other courses that cover servicing of other fire protection systems and equipment or select from any of our professional development courses
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is designed for individuals who have acquired skills and knowledge working in the fire industry or via other learning, who are not required to undertake formal training.
- RPL for this course is currently offered via an Assessment Only methodology with participants required to complete assessments without necessarily working through the learning materials. Future RPL pathways are in development.
- Eligibility for the RPL pathway is determined on a case by case basis, centred around an individual's experience and availability of evidence to demonstrate competency.
